SIGN UP FOR 2011-2012 SEMINARS IN CALIFORNIA!
• Bay-area Educators:
The Stanford Program on International and Cross-Cultural Education (SPICE) will offer two seminars in 2011-2012. Please contact Naomi Funahashi at nfunahashi@stanford.edu or 650-724-4396.
• Southern California Educators:
The University of Southern California will offer two seminars for
teachers in fall 2011. One will focus on "Asia and United States
History" and the other on "East Asia since 1800." To learn more
about these seminuars and apply to participate, please visit the Asia

In addition to these seminars, USC and Stanford will be offering several Saturday workshops focused on particular topics such as popular culture, human rights, religion, democratization, environmental challenges, and economic development in all or part of East Asia. These are announced on the USC U.S.-China Institute's website and via the Teaching about Asia newsletter and Asia in My Classroom discussion forum
• Orange County-area Educators:
In cooperation wiht the FIRST Program at California State University at Fullerton, NCTA offers an annual one-week seminar for Fullerton area teachers. The summer 2012 program is tentatively scheduled as a seminar on China-U.S. relations. Please check back in January 2012 for details and application, or see the California page of the University of Colorado NCTA National Coordinating Site's NCTA SEMINARS WEBPAGE. Inquiries may also be directed to seminar leader Connie deCapite, cdecapite@exchange.fullerton.edu. Information will be posted as it becomes available.
California teachers completing the summer residential seminar or the others at USC and Stanford will be eligible to apply for the 2012 California Study Tour to China and Taiwan. Details on the trip will be available in November at the USC Web site adn will be annouded in the Teaching about Asia Newsletter. A national study tour to China for NCTA alumni is tentatively scheduled for summer 2012. Please check back in December 2011 for more details.
NCTA will offer a 4-week study tour to Japan in summer 2012,
funded by the Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad, with additional
support from NCTA. Coordinated by the NCTA National Coordinating
Site at the Five College Center for East Asian Studies, the study tour
is open by application to NCTA alumni nationwide. This study tour
was postponed from Summer 2011 and new applications are not being
accepted at this time. For more

NCTA is offering two enrichment summer institutes for NCTA alumni in 2012. A residential institute on East Asian literature
will be conducted by the NCTA National Coordinating Site at Indiana
University for eligible alumni. Information will be available in early winter 2012 at the Indiana University NCTA National Coordinating Site's NCTA Teaching East Asian Literature in High School Workshop Web page. A residential one-week institute on a
specific topic in East Asian Studies will be hosted by the NCTA
National Coordinating Site at the University of Colorado. The
topic and application process will be announced in January 2012.
