K-12 educators are invited to join the Sejong Cultural Society, a nonprofit organization based in Chicago, as they foster greater awareness and appreciation of Korea’s rich cultural heritage in the United States through contemporary creative and fine arts. The Society will host The Sijo Summit: Celebrating 20 Years of Cultural Exchange—Verses from Korea, Japan, and China to honor the shared legacy of poetry among these East Asian cultures. Throughout the Summit, participants will engage in a comprehensive exploration of East Asian poetic forms, practice composing original sijo, and participate in scholarly discussions on the pedagogy and cultural significance of sijo in modern education. Attendees will also enjoy a traditional Korean meal and a live music performance. Join us in celebrating the enduring legacy of sijo and the poetic traditions that unite East Asia.
The 2025 Sijo Summit is presented in part with the support of the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia, through its coordinating sites at Indiana University and the University of Pittsburgh.
Current U.S. K–12 educators who complete the program requirements will be eligible to receive 10 hours of professional development credit and a stipend. The program is free, but registration is required.
