Asian Americans have called Arkansas home for over 150 years, yet Asian Americans experiences rarely appear in US history textbooks. This workshop provides an accessible overview of key themes, events, and concepts within the broad scope of Asian American history, as well as cutting edge classroom resources for engaging Asian American history in Arkansas, including new digital humanities platforms like Rising Above in Arkansas: Japanese American Incarceration at Rohwer and Jerome during World War II and The Arkansas Chinese Heritage Project. Discover the untold stories of Mississippi Chinese grocers, Japanese American artists, Marshallese Nuclear Refugees, and other communities that have shaped Arkansas history in important ways.
Participating teachers will receive a $50 honorarium and two free books on Asian American history.
