East Asia Since 1800

This online seminar introduces teachers to the modern history and cultures of East Asia from around 1800 to the present. Through sessions on China, Japan, Korea, and the broader region, the course explores major themes such as imperial encounters, reform, revolution, modernization, war, division, economic development, and cultural change. Teachers will work with visual and material primary sources, including maps, prints, photographs, posters, and contemporary media, while developing classroom-ready resources for teaching modern East Asia.
