This series of webinars aim to explore Japan’s transformation from the Edo period to the present. Together, the sessions trace major changes in Japanese society, institutions, economy, and everyday life while considering Japan’s evolving place in East Asia. Three session include:

Oct 5 — Meiji Japan: State-Building, Industrialization, and Modern Life
Nov 16 — Contemporary Japan: Society, Economy, and Japan in East Asia
