This course explores the transformative era of Xi Jinping’s leadership in China, focusing on his key policies and their impact on Chinese society through a reading of Emily Feng’s newly published "Let Only Red Flowers Bloom: Identity and Belonging in Xi Jinping’s Era." Emily Feng is an international correspondent for NPR covering China, Taiwan and beyond. The course will include a look at the impacts on business, the rule of law, human rights, women, minority populations including the Uyghurs, and Hong Kong.
