U.S.-China relations have a long and complex history but have not always been so fraught. A key to understanding current tensions is to know how we got here, and to see how issues such as trade, religion, colonialism, nationalism, and domestic pressures matter then and now. This series will explore the last 150 years, from Opium Wars to the Cold War and up to the present, through weekly one-hour webinars hosted by China experts, who will give short overviews on different topics, and then facilitate discussions about how to teach this topic in part or in whole.
Join this discussion on the one China policy and Taiwan facilitated by Julian Gewirtz, IGP Senior Research Scholar at Columbia University and a former Senior Director for China and Taiwan Affairs at the White House National Security Council, and explore key points, questions, and teaching approaches.
