In this book talk featuring Bing's Cherries, Livia Blackburne will introduce how storytelling functions as more than just narrative art but can also be a transformative pedagogical tool. Centering on the tall-tale retelling of Ah Bing, the Chinese immigrant behind the Bing cherry, she’ll share strategies that help students connect personal and community narratives with deeper language use and cultural understanding. Participants will walk away with practical ideas for guiding learners to reflect on lived and inherited experience, build expressive confidence, and strengthen literacy through stories grounded in East Asian diasporic experience and historical voice.
The first 25 registered K–12 educators will receive a FREE copy of Bing’s Cherries, a beautifully illustrated book for classroom use.
