Digital Classroom Resources and Lesson Plans for Teaching Japanese American Incarceration in Arkansas

This workshop introduces teachers to the topic of Japanese American incarceration during WWII, beginning with the national context and focusing on the two Arkansas camps at Rohwer and Jerome. Participants will explore the major events and policies that led to incarceration, the experiences of those confined in the Arkansas camps, and the postwar impacts of the camps through Rising Above in Arkansas, a multimodal digital platform developed by researchers at the University of Arkansas. The Rising Above site integrates interactive maps, 3D educational environments, and primary sources to support student engagement and inquiry.
