"Frontiers" have held a critical geopolitical and cultural place in Chinese history, as in American history, and figure significantly in contemporary China's domestic policies, world view, and global relations. This three-part webinar/discussion course offers an interdisciplinary introduction to images and realities of three traditional "frontier" regions--Xinjiang, Tibet, and Mongolia, considering histories, cultures, national government policies and current tensions and issues.
The course consists of three components:
1. Three weekly webinars with instructor Jonathan Lipman: October 1, 8, and 15. Live participation is required. Please note the dates and times before you register. This program will be facilitated by Lynn Parisi.
2. Required and suggested readings for each topic.
3. Required discussion forum via the FCCEAS Moodle LMS will provide a venue for sharing your thoughts on the readings or the lectures, sharing resources, or asking questions following each webinar.
This program is for in-service K-12 educators living and working in the US. Participants who complete the course receive a $50 stipend and certificate for 15 contact hours. Participants must be US citizens or green card holders to receive the stipend.
